even christ likes to talk about teenpop
The Christian Science Monitor (...really?) attempts to restore my faith (no pun intended) in Kara's intelligence:

She is a perfectionist who still agonizes, for example, over a single word in Kelly Clarkson's "Walk Away." The word "attention" in one line should really be "intention," she says, to fit the song's emotional "thesis."

Whoa! Look at that! That's a whole different song! My mind was just blown!

There's no light at the end of the tunnel tonight/Just a bridge it's my intention to burn.

Intending to fit a square into a circle was a lie.

For worse or for better, I intend it anyway.

(What were the songs she wrote for Blackout?)

(Ah, Google. It works. According to Wikipedia, Kara co-wrote "Ooh Ooh Baby," which is OK but maybe the 11th best on the album.)

She also co-produced "Heaven on Earth," which I would say is 11th best. ("Ooh Ooh Baby" gets to sixth or so for that Outkast beat/guitar combo, and the dramatic bridge. And also for the little ad-libs at the end, which I think is the most human Britney sounds on the whole album.)

So, do you think Simply Kara is really Kara?

WHAT THE HELL, it actually does change the entire song. Neat.

Yeah. It means Kelly is looking for something back from him, not that she's looking merely for him to shine his attention on her.

(I basically hated the attitude of the writer of the piece, though, even if it did have that great of information.)

Great piece of information, that is.

I know! And now I really like it, as opposed to just thinking it's catchy! The fact that it isn't "intention" is going to bother me for the rest of my life!

When a lyric is different from what it should be, I force myself to believe that the lyrics are what I want them to be. I recommend you sing along in your head and out loud as "intentions". This is how I came to peace with the "different than who we are" line in "Breaking Free". Every time I listen to it, I'm a little surprised it's not "different from".

Oh, yes yes yes yes yes. Except I'm way older than you, aren't I? By now you get "different than" everywhere, and I think I'm the only one who notices. (Of course, in Britain they say "different to.")

Jesus, God, "different to" drove me slightly insane when I started listening to Eurythmics.

I'm 25, and I'm not a stickler for grammar at all, I usually never notice grammatical mistakes. For some reason, this one really bugs me, prolly cause it's so central to the song.
