I am considering joining the iPod nation. (Once you go Mac, you never go back.) My pro/con list:
PROS:
- superior customer service (compared to Zen Micro)
- to the best of my knowledge, the iPod Nano does not cause cancer (Zen Micro? Not so sure.)
- supposedly compatible with both PC and Mac (unlike Zen Micro)
- free laser engraving! ("hi, my name is buckingham")
CONS:
- 8GB Nano only comes in black and red
- regular iPod (in preferable white) is GINORMOUS! (compared to Zen Micro)
- built-in battery (no spares!)
- questionable compatibility with old-ass PCs
-
CLICKWHEEEL!I loved my first Zen Micro, it survived a lot before its fatal fall from my bookshelf, the touchpad is far superior to the stupid clickwheel, the ability to battery-swap is a lifesaver, and, to be fair, the cancer thing is just a Prop 65 warning, so...whatever. But the shitty customer service is kind of a dealbreaker for me. (The Zen Micro's inability to communicate with Macs is also a worry, but less so--even if I go Mac, I'm always going to have access to a PC.)
Any advice? Do any of you have pre-2004 PCs that have been able to handle the new Nano? My computer has USB problems to begin with, and I sometimes have to transfer songs from my computer to my MP3 player by sharing my music folder on the network and accessing it via my mother's computer--would iPod/iTunes be able to do that?
